Lashing out at Mayawati government, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said Chief Minister Mayawati neither looked after the welfare of dalits and poor nor addressed the issues of aam admi although she has been ruling Uttar Pradesh in the name of dalits and poor. It is Rahul Gandhi who has been championing the cause of aam admi. "I have one personality trait. If something gets into my head, I get after it, I don't leave it. I want to change UP. Now, even if God stops me, I would still say that I would change UP," said Rahul Gandhi. Across the vast Uttar Pradesh divided into Mulayam and Mayawati fiefs, it is Rahul Gandhi who is bringing the issues of a common man to the fore – employment for poor under MNREGA, health delivery services under NRHM, non availability fertilizers, seeds and fair price of produce for the farmers, waters, electricity and price inflation for aam admi. Referring the news paper reports regarding the misuse of Bundelkhand funds he said “I read it in today’s news paper that some minister purchased tractors using the funds sent by the Centre under Bundelkhand package. We had sent Rs. 3000 cr for the poor people of Bundelkhand. But that went to the minister’s pocket” alleged the Congress General Secretary.

Rahul Gandhi: Congress will ensure benefits of welfare schemes reach poor

Hitting hard at Mayawati government for large scale irregularities in Central funded welfare schemes meant for poor, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the Mayawati government miserably failed to ensure that benefits of such schemes reached the needy poor. Recently while addressing a public meeting in Shahjahanpur, U.P the Congress (I) leader asked as Mayawati claims to be working for dalits and poor then how is that the intended benefits had not reached the poor? Giving tough fight to BSP and SP, Rahul Gandhi said there is no shortage of funds with Centre but the problem is that the money sent is not reaching the needy poor who deserve it. Rahul Gandhi said Mayawati has been playing caste politics without doing anything on the ground whereas Congress (I) is working for all people including dalits, poor, OBCs and minorities irrespective of caste considerations. Rahul Gandhi has promised that a government of the poor by Congress (I) will ensure benefits of welfare schemes reach the poor of Uttar Pradesh.

To prove his point he cited an example “I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted.”
