Rahul Gandhi talks about scam in Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in UP
Blaming Mayawati for indulging in corruption even where education of poor children is concerned, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has held her responsible for scam in Sarva Shiksha Abiyan. She stooped low to make money from poor children’s education program, Rahul Gandhi said while campaigning for the ongoing Assembly elections. This program has been financed by Center so that no child is left without education. Free books are given to poor children for printing of which tenders were required. Not even tendering process was complied with. Only a panel was formed arbitrarily to execute the work of printing. The entire order for printing given to a single company was shrouded in non-transparency. The quality of printing was so bad that neither these copy/books are readable nor anything can be written upon them. Highlighting that Mayawati was interested in only money Rahul Gandhi said she failed to look after the welfare of the poor. He appealed the people to vote for Congress (I) and assured that a government of the poor by Congress (I) will work for their welfare.

Blaming Mayawati for not taking any action against tainted ministers and MLAs, Congress (I) has said she shielded corrupt ministers and MLAs of her party. This not only demoralized the state administration but also encouraged corruption and goondaism, said Congress (I).
For instance, BSP MLA Subhash Yadav was accused of plotting a murderous assault on irrigation department chief engineer Anand Mohan Prasad. The incident took place on May 19, 2010 in full public view. Government officer Prasad was allegedly assaulted for not allotting construction contract to MLA's aides. But police refused to register an FIR.
This was despite irrigation department employees testified for the victim. At last Prasad had to move to the court but Mayawati did not act. Congress (I) said if this could happen to a chief engineer of a government department, what possibly could be the situation of a aam aadmi in the state under Mayawati’s corrupt government.
