Mayawati govt. made away with JSY money: Rahul Gandhi

Slamming Mayawati for ignoring the welfare of the poor women, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that her government stooped low to steal money of Janani Sauraksha Yojana (JSY) program. She made money at the cost of the health of the poor women, he said while campaigning for UP Assembly elections 2012. JSY being one of the welfare programs under the NRHM bouquet encourages pregnant poor women belonging to BPL category for institutional delivery to reduce child mortality and safe delivery. Each pregnant women going for institutional delivery is given monetary incentive of Rs 1400 and ASHA worker assisting in this work are paid around Rs 2,000 per case basis. But the money did not reach the targeted poor women, said Rahul Gandhi. Instead it was swindled in connivance with Mayawati’s ministers. Poor women for whom the money was meant were deprived of their rights. For instance number of cases has been detected where in the name of same woman time and again the amount has been claimed for having delivered a child every few months. Highlighting that Mayawati is really not interested in the welfare of the poor women, Rahul Gandhi urged the people this time to give chance to this party to form government and promised that a government of the poor by Congress (I) would work for their welfare and ensure that benefits of the welfare schemes reach them.
