BJP opposed Lokayuktas to shield its corrupt CMs: Congress (I)

Congress lashed out the BJP for its dubious stand on the Lokpal. The people now know that the real villain for scuttling Lokpal Bill is BJP. It was crying for time bound enactment, said Congress. Lokpal Bill was drafted in consultation with Anna Hazare’s Team. A Consensus was worked out on as many points as it could be reached. Even BJP, which was party to proceedings of parliamentary standing committee, agreed with proposed Lokpal Bill, it said. But when the Bill came up before Parliament BJP pressed red button to defeat the bill. This Bill has a provision for Lokpal for central government and Lokayuktas for the states. This provision would have exposed the corruption in BJP ruled states. BJP opposed the provision to shield its Chief Ministers against graft, said Congress (I). During his campaigns for upcoming UP Assembly elections,

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also had highlighted that BJP-led NDA government at the center from 1998 to 2004 was full of corruption with number of scams and scandals and states ruled by it like Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh are the most corrupt. Urging the people not to trust BJP any more, he appealed them to give this time a chance to Congress (I) to form government. He promised that Congress (I) would ensure good governance to the people.
