Rahul Gandhi campaigns in Karnataka: Hits out at BJP over corruption

Hassan: Congress Vice President RahulGandhi on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP for its double-speak on corruption. “BJP talks loud about corruption in Parliament. But the rampant corruption in Karnataka, under its rule’ is not visible for them” said Rahul Gandhi.  "We have given you RTI to expose corruption," he claimed. "The BJP leaders talk about corruption. Yesterday in Parliament, they spoke about corruption. But they will not talk about Karnataka. They will not mention the corruption in Karnataka. They will not say a chief minister went to jail. They will not say Reddy brothers who they sold the entire state to... they talk about corruption," continued Rahul Gandhi.
Addressing a big Congress rally in Hasan ahead of the May 5 Assembly Elections, Rahul Gandhi sarcastically said the BJP has won the world cup of corruption. Striking an emotional chord with the people of the state, the Congress Vice President said “The state of Karnataka developed because of the hard-works put in by the poor, farmers and the labourers in the state. But today the development is not seen in the state due to the ignorance and misrule of the BJP government here”. He further charged that the BJP has mortgaged Karnataka's future to mafia.
“The money we have today belongs to the people of this country and it should reach back to the people. That is why Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre implemented policies like MNREGA and RTE” explained the Congress leader.
He said Karnataka had a lot of natural resources, among them huge iron ore reserve. "This wealth does not belong to one individual. It belongs to everybody in Karnataka. It belongs to the youth and old people of Karnataka.'
In an indirect dig at former BJP leader and ex-state CM BS Yeddyurappa, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to elect a chief minister who doesn't spend time in jail. He further noted that nobody was happy with the political system and there was a need to include youth and women in the system to bring in real change. “I request the youth and women in the state to join politics to transform the system” stated the young Congress leader”.
“BJP had promised a lot but did nothing” alleged the Congress MP and added “While Congress believes in inclusive growth, BJP follows a divisive agenda”.
“The responsibility of an MLA is to work for the people. There is no place for any MLA in the Congress party who does not work for the people” asserted Rahul Gandhi amidst loud applauds from the crowd.
Earlier, while addressing another Congress rally in Mandya, Rahul Gandhi said “There was a time when the state of Karnataka was shining in all fields. But the state has now lost its shine due to the misrule of the BJP”.
Rahul Gandhi urged the people to oust the present BJP regime in the state and to elect a pro-poor, pro-development, progressive Congress government to bring back the lost glory of Karnataka.

Mayawati robbed poor people’s funds in U.P, says Rahul Gandhi

Slamming Mayawati for large scale scams in central government sponsored welfare schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has accused her of depriving the poor the benefits of these schemes. The Central government money addressed to poor people was swindled by her ministers, he said while campaigning for the upcoming Assembly elections. The poor feel cheated because the welfare benefits did not reach them, Rahul Gandhi added. Highlighting that recently Union Minister Jayaram Ramesh had stated that there was massive corruption in MGNREGS in UP and the Health Minister also said that another Rs 3,000 crores were swindled from NRHM funds. Pointing out that the people in the last Assembly elections put full confidence in Mayawati Rahul Gandhi asked, “did she come to you or heard your problems?” Cautioning the people that Mayawati was really not interested in welfare of the poor, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to get rid of her government. He exhorted them to give this time a chance to Congress (I) and promised that Congress (I) would ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes reach the poor.

Mayawati ignored women empowerment: Rahul Gandhi

Slamming Mayawati for not taking any steps for development of women in the state, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that while she is herself a woman she has altogether ignored empowerment of women. “There cannot be real development without simultaneous development in the condition of women, said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting as part of his ongoing Congress campaign in the state for the upcoming Assembly elections in February 2012. “Women in their daily lives have to face many constraints. Highlighting that Rajiv Gandhi Mahila Vikas Pariyojna has been working for all round development of rural women, he said under this program women have formed Self Help Group in their own villages. Rahul Gandhi pointed out that these women are given training in various crafts like basket making, pottery etc. Congress (I) in this way has encouraged women to learn and earn in their spare time. This has given them a sense of empowerment and new economic standing in the society. Highlighting that Congress (I) is not only about politics but also committed to social and economic well-being of the people, Rahul Gandhi urged the audience to vote for Congress (I) which would work for their empowerment and well-being.

Rahul Gandhi: People of UP fed up with dubious politics

Hitting hard against parties like BSP, SP and BJP for not fulfilling their promises to the people of Uttar Pradesh, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said the people are now fed up with their dubious politics. These parties have been alternatively ruling the state for over last twenty two years, said Rahul Gandhi while addressing public meetings for the upcoming Assembly elections next month. What these parties have given to your during this period, asked Rahul Gandhi adding that there are no good roads, schools, hospital and no development in the state. Corruption and unemployment is forcing the youth to seek employment in other states. BJP sought the votes in the name of religion while SP harped on casteism and musclemen to rough up the people. But BSP of Mayawati turned out to be most corrupt, said Rahul Gandhi. Urging the people not to trust these parties any more, Rahul Gandhi requested them to give this time a chance to Congress (I) to form government and assured that it would work for all people without discrimination of caste or religion.
