Holding Mayawati responsible for plight of the poor, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said she has been using poor and dalits has hostages in her game of caste-identity politics. In the name of dalit politics only she and her party has benefited but not dalits whose lot remains same as before, Rahul Gandhi said during his campaigns for the ongoing Assembly elections. She is ruling in the name of poor and dalits but filling her own big-white purse she always carry and the coffers of party instead of ensuring welfare of poor and downtrodden. She did not implement Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme which provided jobs to the poor in their own villages. Nor did she ensure that the benefits of medicare reach the poor under central sponsored scheme National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). She deprived the poor the benefits of these welfare schemes and pocketed the money. She deliberately did so because she was apprehensive that the credit for these central sponsored welfare schemes will go to Congress (I)-led UPA government which would cause her political loss. Highlighting that Mayawati has been thus using dalits as hostages in her game of politics, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for Congress (I) in their own interest. He assured that Congress (I) will work for their welfare and ensure that the benefits of the schemes reach the poor without fail.
