Rahul Gandhi: Congress has proved its commitment, it will transform UP too

Slamming non-Congress parties like BSP, SP and BJP for making beeline of promises to the people every time during election campaign without ever caring to fulfill them, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had said that change in UP hollow promises cannot bring in any changes. The Congress General Secretary was speaking at a huge public rally in Uttar Pradesh as part of his campaign for the Congress in the recently held assembly elections in the state.

Whenever Congress addresses public issues, Chief Minister Mayawati calls it drama, said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a huge gathering in Hardoi. Rahul Gandhi attacked both Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav for neglecting the plight of Bundelkhand. Rahul Gandhi said that even though it was the responsibility of the state government, Congress (I)-led UPA government sanctioned a relief package worth Rs 8,000 crore for the benefits of the people in drought-hit Bundelkhand. But Mayawati government misused those funds instead of using it for welfare and development of the region.

Stressing that the Congress is a party of the people Rahul Gandhi said that his party – Congress- is working for the people who have been neglected by parties like BSP, SP and BJP. Referring to welfare and development schemes like MNREGA, JNURM, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Janani Sauraksha Yojna etc of the Congress led UPA at the centre, Rahul Gandhi said, “We have already shown by our work what we can do.”

Asserting that only a Congress government can transform UP, Rahul Gandhi requested the people "Give us five years. With your support, we (Congress) will work for a better future of the state and its people."
