"On behalf of the Congress party, I would like to officially wish the suit-boot ki sarkar a very happy birthday," the 44-year-old leader said at a rally in Kerala's Kozhikode district organised to take on the Modi government on its much-hyped anniversary.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi kick-started hi s party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly polls in Delhi with an impressive road show at Kalkaji in South Delhi. He attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said Modi has been doing PR since the govt formation by NDA in centre. “When will he stop talking and do the real work as promised,” said Rahul Gandhi. The Congress leader also promised electricity and water at the lowest possible rates for the people in Delhi. “We have three promises. We will provide electricity and water on the lowest rate, will make contract workers permanent, and give right to shelter to the people of Delhi,” he told reporters.

His ultimate objective was not merely India's freedom but human freedom. Pandit Nehru put the country on the path of modernization, industrialization and social reform. Nehru was a man of letters who interpreted India to the World and the World to India. It is up to our young generation to ensure that the solid foundations that Nehru had built are strengthened further” said Sonia Gandhi. “Secularism was an article of faith for Nehru” she added.
