Pranab, Chidambaram meet Sonia Gandhi
UPA chair person and Congress President Sonia Gandhi today stepped into the 2G spectrum row by meeting Home Minister P Chidambaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee. There are unconfirmed reports that Home Minister had offered to quit.
Mukherjee saw Gandhi shortly after his return from New York where he had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh against the backdrop of the raging controversy over a Finance Ministry note which suggested that Chidambaram when he was the Finance Minister in 2008 could have prevented the 2G scam if he had insisted on the auction of the spectrum. Congress: Opposition parties’ stand in Parliament unjustified
Opposition parties can raise any question and move motion in accordance with the Rules of Business of the House. But once the Chair gives a ruling it is final. Everyone must follow and abide by the ruling. There is a limit to which the opposition can allow fork to take the place of substance. This is the time of fasts, ‘maha rallies’ and ‘yatras’ by politicians and some non-politicians. But we can see another person who silently shows an alternate path of political activity without much propaganda or advertisements. He is on a mission with an innovative vision; to mobilize the youth and to encourage them to join mainstream politics. This man is called Rahul Gandhi, the emerging leader of Indian Politics.
He has got a clear view. He believes strongly that only by including the youngsters of this country in the process of development, our country could progress further. He says it unambiguously, wherever he goes. Now he is in Kashmir and the speech he delivered in Kargil, spoke volumes. The lack of connectivity in the society, especially with the rural masses, is one of the important issues we face today and Rahul Gandhi clearly understands it.
He clearly follows the footsteps of his father Late Rajiv Gandhi. There are criticisms that Rajiv Gandhi was not that politically successful. You may agree it or not. But one thing was sure that he was a man with a modern vision. During his regime, India could surge ahead to such a level that we became powerful to compete with the world, economically and technologically. When Rajiv Gandhi was at the helm of affairs of India, the youth of the country got a new enthusiasm and energy. He showed an alternate path for the Indian polity and culture. When he brought out new revolutionary policies, there were many eyebrows raised, but undoubtedly those policies brought out miraculous changes in the Indian society. Rajiv Gandhi could do those wonders only with the support of the new generation of the country.
Rahul Gandhi is also doing just that. It is also a fact that Rahul Gandhi also needs to learn new lessons of politics and he should be ready to take more responsibilities as a responsible young leader of the Congress. But he knows where the real potential of our Nation is. I have noticed his speeches and the interactions. All are to the point. Political leaders and other non-political personalities have been busy spiting fire on each other, Rahul Gandhi always cautious. Silently he visited villages, stayed with them and mingled with them. These effective steps could bring new positive hopes to the common masses. When he talked in Meghalaya, he talked about the necessity to value our traditions. These words are important at a time when people tend to forget all the traditional treasures of our system, in the name of modernization. In Punjab he talked about the positive mindset of the people of Punjab especially the youngsters. In Kashmir he said the sorrow of Kashmir is his sorrow too. He knows what to talk and when to talk. I have noticed in most of the speeches, unless he is compelled, he chose not to indulge into any unwanted controversies. But when he finds that political remarks are important, he never hesitates to do so too.
When he spoke in any Youth Congress or NSUI function, he never uttered any controversial remarks against anyone but strictly stood on his own agenda of building these outfits. Even he tries to avoid questions about his own party, the Congress. But we saw another Rahul Gandhi, a man with a clear focus, when he undertook the padyatra in the villages of Greater Noida where hundreds of farmers lost their land illegally by the wrong land acquisition by the Mayawati Government. There he stood with the farmers, moved with them, talked to them and led the battle from the front to mitigate their problems and to ensure their rights. Politically too he could expose the wrong deeds of the BSP Government in U.P. It can be treated as a political exercise in view of the forthcoming elections, but without any confusion I can argue that it was a timely intervention for a correct cause. And Rahul Gandhi was successful too by getting the land acquisition bill introduced which was mentioned by Rural Development Minister, Jairam Ramesh.
I am sure that his intention would be to travel from Kashmir to Kanyakumari to mobilize the youth. I am hopeful that he would be successful in it. The new method that Rahul Gandhi approached is quite innovative, that is, interaction with the people. It not only bridges the gap with the masses, but also induces a new ray of hope among the people. They get a belief that there is someone who is listening to their issues. In fact, this is what is lacking in Indian society. The leaders are staying at the top and the citizens are just looking upwards to hear from them and swallow it as such. By yatras and rallies, leaders try to forcefully gather the people’s support. They also force people to challenge constitution and authorities. Here also Rahul Gandhi has been setting new examples. A true leader should be one who moves with the masses and who leads from the front. That is what Rahul Gandhi is trying to do. The country and the people are looking forward to find a leader with a clear positive agenda who can send positive energy in the minds of the masses, across the country. I hope Rahul Gandhi could be the one who can meet their aspirations in the future.
