Priyanka Gandhi can definitely play big role in Indian politics

“Reject the leaders who reject you,” is what Priyanka Gandhi Vadra kept on telling the people during her campaign in Uttar Pradesh for the recently held assembly polls. This statement talks volumes. The progressive vision and the clarity about concept of democracy, both come out from this statement. Yes, Priyanka Gandhi is a leader who realizes the strength of democracy and the power of vote which is crucial for bringing in changes in our system. Beyond doubt one can also argue that she has got tremendous potential to become an outstanding leader in Indian politics. If she takes such a decision that will be the most appropriate one for strengthening the democracy and will be very much beneficial for the poor and underprivileged in our country.

When one analyses the campaigns of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra it becomes very clear that her main focus was development. She expressed disappointment over the bad state of affairs in the state of Uttar Pradesh. She had examples to list out to prove what she says was correct. Whether it is the case of electricity related issues in Raebareli or the issue of dilapidated roads in the region, she could pin point what is lacking in the state. She could convince the people what was going wrong in Raebareli, the constituency of her mother, Sonia Gandhi. The people became very clear that the development works in their constituency is not reaping the expected benefits despite the sincere efforts from their MP Sonia Gandhi, because of the careless attitude of the non-Congress state government. Definitely Priyanka Gandhi had substantial evidences to prove her point. Same is the case with Amethi too, the parliament constituency of her brother Rahul Gandhi.

Yes, Priyanka Gandhi knows well how to convince people. The people give her a patient hearing. They loved to interact with her, talk to her and they feel happy to have a glimpse of their favourite leader. Like her brother Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi also loved to go to the people, interact with them to understand their grievances. She also argued that the leaders should go to the people to know their issues and if a leader stops going to the people, she asked the people, to reject him. She is right. In democracy the real power is in the hands of the people. That is what she always tried to tell the people.

When Priyanka Gandhi was given the responsibility to look after the affairs in Amethi and Raebareli during the last UP assembly polls, she could handle it in a quite appreciable manner. All her public meetings - she preferred to address small gatherings at maximum places – attracted a good number of enthusiastic crowd. No one can be blamed if they compare her with Late Indira Gandhi. Priyanka Gandhi, they say, is having the same charisma and potential, quite similar to late Congress leader – Indira Gandhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had urged the people to ‘think properly and intelligently before casting your votes” - a clear message to remind the people about the strength of votes. She could help people to learn about their role in a democracy. They could realise after listening to Priyanka Gandhi that if people want a change, they can do so. That is the strength of democracy and the importance of elections, people told themselves. That is what our democracy needs to strengthen itself and that is what Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been effectively practicing.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra: Rahul Gandhi not bothered about poll results, he wants to change UP

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – the star campaigner for Congress- who campaigned for Congress in Amethi and Raebareli had attended eight public meetings and over 15 roadside interactions with people in Amethi reminding people of Rahul Gandhi’s hard work in contrast with opportunistic politics of other parties in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had begun her election campaign in assembly constituencies falling in the Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi, from where her brother Rahul Gandhi is the Member of Parliament.

Priyanka Gandhi had campaigned in Rae Bareli and Amethi before also, but she was more aggressive during her recent campaign and is taking up one Assembly constituency at a time. Priyanka Gandhi had started her campaign from Amethi’s Balbhadrapur.

“Before the 2007 election also, I had come to you seeking votes but you did not listen to me and see what you got in return. Did your MLA ever come back to you? While central government built roads and provided you water, your MLA built a palatial house with the money that was meant for you,” Priyanka Gandhi told the gathering.

Calling Rahul stubborn, Priyanka Gandhi reminded people that how Rahul Gandhi was touring the entire state to bring about change in Uttar Pradesh. “You know how Rahul is. He is stubborn. He is touring the entire state because he wants that you should wake up now and change the state. He is not bothered about election results. All he wants is to bring about change in the state for the better.”

“Priyanka is a natural leader and has an inner charisma”

Priyanka Gandhi reminds people of her grandmother and late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Be it a political aficionado or a former acquaintance or someone who knows Priyanka Gandhi in reality, everyone say she has got tremendous political instincts and understanding.

A former teacher says Priyanka has intellect and charm. A candid interview where she talked about forgiveness of her father's Sri Lankan assassins and her Italian-born mother's decision to enter politics is as memorable as anything her shy mother and brother have said publicly over the past four years.

"I wouldn't have that courage to go completely against my grain because I felt it was my duty to some ideal or to my family," she said.

Neerja Choudhary, a senior Delhi-based journalist, says: "Priyanka is a natural leader and has an inner charisma. She has good political reflexes. Her confidence reminds you of someone who was born to rule."

Priyanka Gandhi has been part of poll campaign in bits in the recent times. But, this assembly election in the heartland of India has proved to be a strong projection of her political skills and wisdom.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra wants proper enquiry in NRHM scam

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday replied to a volley of questions during her election campaign for congress in Raebareli. While speaking on alleged funds misuse in the state, she said, "Money that is being sent to the UP state under health schemes is not reaching the people. The money is being kept by a few in the state."

She said that the newspapers regularly carried reports on funds misuse in the NRHM scheme. "Rahul feels that the situation in UP has become very bad in last 22 years. There should be development in the state. The biggest state is amongst the least-developed states, this is naturally making him angry," she said.

She also demanded an inquiry into the deaths related to the NRHM scam.

Commenting on the Beni Prasad row, she said, "We respect the Election Commission. Sometimes these things happen during elections." She added that it was not a policy of the Congress Party to ignore the EC.
