FDI in retail is in the interest of farmers: Congress (I)

Launching a scathing attack on BJP for opposing UPA government’s proposal for allowing FDI in retail, Congress (I) has said BJP is spreading misinformation to serve its political interests at the cost of national interests. BJP is claiming that FDI it is anti-farmer which is totally false. Farmers are supporting FDI and talking about the advantages that they have derived from selling directly to the stores. This increases their profit margins by 25 per cent. Then, whose interest BJP is trying to protect? Well it’s of middlemen whom BJP represents who exploit the farmers. Congress (I) has highlighted that the country needs FDI because we need all possible investments we can get. Investments lead to creation of jobs. That starts off the virtuous spiral of economic growth. BJP is playing on the fears in people’s minds to serve their own interest. But the real truth is that FDI in retail is good economics. Congress (I) has said it is in the interests of people and the country.
