Congress: Mayawati did not spare even the poor students

Elaborating the pathetic conditions in the state of Uttar Pradesh by the misrule by the non-Congress parties in the past 22 years, especially under Mayawati, Congress (I) has said that scams in her government did not spare even poor students. Mayawati government is playing with the education and career of students of Uttar Pradesh, alleged Congress (I). Under higher education scholarship scheme UP government allotted funds of Rs 500 crores. But out of this amount Rs 400 crore were plundered by the ministers of Mayawati in connivance with private educational institutions, said Congress (I). There are around 700 private professional colleges in the state. State government is paying fees of SC/ST and poor students in the form of scholarship direct to the private institutions alleged Congress.  But private colleges are also charging fees from those students, added the Congress. Thus while students have been deprived of the benefits of scholarship, Mayawati has helped private colleges to fill their coffers, said Congress (I).

Congress blames BJP for blocking Lokpal Bill

Congress has attacked BJP for sabotaging passing of Lokpal Bill in Rajya Sabha. Congress (I) has accused it for depriving the people of the institution of Lokpal.  The country needs Lokpal and Lokayukta to fight graft. It was BJP running parallel back office with Anna Hazare and Team in front office demanding an early passage of Lokpal Bill. But when Congress introduced a strong Lokpal Bill in the Lok Sabha BJP opposed the constitutional status to the Lokpal. Again when the bill came up before the Rajya Sabha BJP it tried to delay the proceedings of consideration of the Bill.  Further, all of a sudden it proposed 187 amendments instead of passing the Lokpal Bill which was cleared by Lok Sabha.  It is very clear from its act that they are no serious about the anti-corruption legislation. But Congress is committed to bring a strong anti-graft Bill.  Congress informed that in the all party meeting they supported constitutional status without conditionalities. Besides, there was no point for BJP to propose amendments in Rajya Sabha when in Lok Sabha it had already cleared the bill.  Congress (I) said this confirms the double stance of BJP and their non-commitment.

Rahul Gandhi brought development as the focus in UP elections: Congress

Congress accused BSP chief Mayawati of playing caste vote bank politics and claimed that full credit should be given to Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi for making the issues of good governance and development the main focus in the UP elections.

These are the issues which people are concerned in Uttar Parades. The people in UP are not bothered about caste, religion, said the Congress. But Mayawati is again up in her old game of caste politics and throwing about promises to ‘other’ communities to garner their votes and to divert people’s attention from the core issues, said many Congress leaders.

Congress argued that Mayawati is not talking about corruption and crime in the state. She is not talking about development either. During many public meetings Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also ahd said that Mayawati government looted the money which under MNREGA Scheme was meant for providing employment to the needy poor. The Congress leader also had alleged that Mayawati’s ministers siphoned off crores of NRHM funds which were meant to improve rural health care services for the poor people in rural areas.
