Sonia Gandhi: Modi govt not committed to development of Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday while initiating a debate in the Parliament accused Narendra Modi government of failing to fulfil commitments made to the people of Andhra Pradesh when Telangana was carved out of it, a charge rejected by the government. Sonia Gandhi said she wondered why the sense of urgency was not being shown by the government in fulfilling key commitments made to the people there "who have been waiting patiently for over nine months" and feel they have been "taken for granted". She further said the 14th Finance Commission has not done "full justice" to the needs of the state and accused the government of "sadly" not doing anything "substantial" for funding the new capital for the state.

Rahul Gandhi addresses rally in Kolkata, slams PM Modi, CM Mamata Banerjee

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi came down heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of trying to deflect attention away from the NDA government’s “unfulfilled promises”, and also targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He also slammed NDA govt over land bill as he referred to agrarian and tribal agitations in Nandigram, Bhatta Parsaul and Niyamgri. “When our (UPA) government was there, our PM wanted to go to Bangladesh. We spoke to her and requested Mamata Banerjee to go with us. She said no, ‘ekla chalo re’ (I will go alone). Now, Modiji is there, so no ‘ekla chalo re’. We will go together. Why is this happening? What is the friendship about? You must be knowing the reason,” said Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi speaks at Congress election rally at Kalanwali, Haryana

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the ceasefire violations on Sunday while addressing a big election rally at Kalanwali, (Sirsa) in Haryana as part of his ongoing campaign for the upcoming assembly polls in the state and said that the onslaught from Pakistan restarted a day after the Prime Minister assured the country that things were back to normalcy. He also attacked Modi over incursions on the India-China border, alleging that the Prime Minister did not raise the issue with the Chinese President Xi Jinping.

There are casualties but still Modi says ‘jaldi thik ho jayega’,” he said. “Our jawans are being killed, our children are being slaughtered,” he said. “Earlier achhe din (good times) were promised. Now people laugh at this slogan,” said the Congress leader.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi accused the Narendra Modi led BJP government at the Centre of forgetting its promises to voters, saying "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is playing the drums in Japan but ignoring crises of water, power and prices" at home. "This government has forgotten its promises on corruption, on power, on water, on prices. 100 days are over, where is the result? Vegetables are more expensive and there are serious power and water crises," said Rahul Gandhi.

Uttar Pradesh: Rahul Gandhi meets family of Badaun gangrape victims

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi visited Badaun in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and met the family members of the two gangrape victims. The incident has evoked an outrage and two constables were today sacked and another accused arrested as the UP government promised to set up a fast track court to punish the culprits. The action came three days after the girls were gangraped and their bodies were found hanging from a tree.The two girls, who were cousins and aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on the night of May 27 and their bodies were found hanging from a tree in the village in Ushait area the next morning. The incident had triggered protests in the area with villagers alleging police apathy, following which an FIR was registered against seven persons.

Warangal: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on TDP, BJP and TRS while addressing a huge election rally at Warangal in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh on Friday. "Without Congress, this dream would never have been a reality. We listened to your voices, adhered to democratic principles and now a new state -- Telangana will be formed. The state of Andhra Pradesh will be divided into two and our endeavour will be ensure that the dreams of the people of both states are met with. Whatever we promise, we deliver" said the Congress leader and added, "There are several political parties here. TDP and BJP had blocked the formation of Telangana. When we were pushing for this bill, TRS was nowhere in the scene. They neither helped us to pass Telangana Bill or to draft it. TRS was formed in 2001 and the about 40 Congress MLAs had passed a resolution to make a separate Telangana state in 2000".
